Improved synchronization by a factor of 10 at little extra cost

Our linear motor systems offer already incomparable precision and dynamics, often at the price of conventional driven units. With its ironless motor development, the new linear motor system LMS 2.IL provides increased synchronization by the power of ten. At the same time the use of the same components of the original LMS 2 series reduces costs.

More and more drive technology applications, especially in the electronics industry, in metrology and automatic optical inspection, require synchronization qualities which cannot be achieved by the precision of conventional linear motor systems.

With the LMS 2.IL series a dramatic increase in synchronization quality was developed. This ironless linear motor system combines maximum synchronization precision with the cost benefits of a modular system. The system operates on 15 % less moved mass and offers a greater precision in synchronization by a factor of ten than the synchronization-optimized irone core members of the same product family.

Already the LMS 2-series of the standard linear motor systems has been regarded as a highly dynamic and extremely precise way of moving and positioning small to medium loads. The use of high-performance iron core linear motors provides for a high power spectrum, but does, however, affect the quality of synchronization. As in all motors with windings around an iron core, movement is accompanied by a certain ripple effect, so-called cogging.

Cogging is eliminated by designing the motor coils without an iron core. However, such designed linear motor systems have been quite expensive to date, not least because of the small number of units manufactured. The ironless linear motor system LMS 2.IL can combine maximum dynamics and uncompromising synchronization properties with affordable costs as it is manufactured using mass-produced components of the LMS 2 series. This also means that the LMS 2.IL has short delivery times as well as being available from the start in numerous variants, with different path measurement systems and a broad range of accessories.

By using the same shape factor without changes in design, the optional use of iron core or ironless variants is possible, so that machine manufacturers can offer variants of the same design with different synchronization qualities for similar applications without incurring additional expense.
